Other Financial Considerations

 

Another financial situation, which could mean an even greater amount of money out of pocket, is the use of an egg donor, sperm donor or surrogate services.  Typically, the medical services incurred by the donors or surrogates are not reimbursed by insurance.  In particular, items such as legal fees, recruiting fees and shipping costs of specimens are generally never covered by insurance.  This is something to keep in mind if you are planning to use a donor and/or surrogate during your infertility treatment.


There is also the issue of fertility medications.  Some insurance plans cover them, while some do not.  Fertility medications tend to be quite expensive, so it is important to clearly understand your coverage on this component of your treatment. The Shared Risk Refund Program does not cover the cost of fertility medications.  The Capital One Healthcare Finance Plan may be a way to spread out the cost of this expense as a part of a loan.  You will need to make sure to calculate medication costs, in addition to treatment costs, when applying for a Capital One loan.
