Q & A with Dr. Hobeika
What do you like most about what you do?
I have always been in awe of the process of creation of life. Being able to accompany couples along their path to parenthood has been my most rewarding experience in medicine. It is a continuous drive for me to be there for those who haven’t been able to attain this goal yet.
In practice, what are you most proud of?
In our field, we practice at the forefront of medicine. I am proud to incorporate state of the art technologies and approaches with the goal of optimizing treatment outcomes for our patients. This is a continuous, never-ending process that seeks constant improvement in clinical and pregnancy outcomes. I am so proud to be a part of such an impactful, rapidly evolving field.
Why did you choose to work in the field of reproductive medicine?
Ever since my early years of medical school, I realized that my passion revolved around the gift of life. This was later reinforced during my reproductive endocrinology and infertility rotation as a resident in obstetrics and gynecology. The impact that we can have on patients’ lives is tremendous which reflects a feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment.
What do you consider your special areas of interest in reproductive medicine and why?
My research experience in the field of ovarian physiology and the role of stem cell therapy in reproduction has attracted my interest to women with PCOS and diminished ovarian reserve. These two groups are very challenging and little progress has been made to bring about significant changes in outcomes over the past few years. I hope that through my continuous collaborations with scientists and research groups, novel approaches will be available for women who are currently struggling with either of these diagnoses.
What is your approach to medicine?
Regardless of the advances in technology and the multiplicity of clinical parameters in our field, my approach to medicine involves considering the individual as a whole and individualizing care. I carefully assess the family building needs of individuals and couples, counsel them on the different approaches, and assist them in making the best choice for them.
Share something unique people don’t know about you.
I used to be a musician and a proficient piano player. I stopped my music classes when I started medical school, but I still play the piano occasionally… and hope to get back to it in the future!
What do you do for fun in your spare time? What are your hobbies?
I enjoy skiing, hiking, playing basketball, and trying new restaurants.
