From unexplained infertility to pregnancy after IUI

Why do you want to share your story?

Before coming to FCI, my husband and I had no idea what to expect. Our journey wasn’t easy, but we are currently expecting and we wouldn’t be here without Dr. Uhler and her staff! I want other couples and patients to know that FCI is the best place to receive fertility treatments!

What led you to the Fertility Centers of Illinois?

I was referred by my OB after months of unexplained infertility, some polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) characteristics and hypothalamic amenorrhea.

How would you describe your experience with your physician?

Excellent! Above average! Dr. Uhler is the smartest physician I know – and I work with many physicians in a hospital. She was always very caring, patient and personable with us! She always took the time to answer our questions and would let us process the information she would share with us during our appointments.

What fertility treatment did you undergo?

I had two IUIs. After my first intrauterine insemination (IUI), I begged Dr. Uhler to try a cycle of in vitro fertilization (IVF). During our first consult meeting, she said we may have to try two to three IUIs to get some answers. After an unsuccessful first round with Menopur, the second round Dr. Uhler added Gonal-F. Dr. Uhler explained why she thought the combination of both medications would be successful, and she was right!

What helped you get through treatment?

Having the support of my husband, and the support and kindness of the entire FCI office staff. My ultrasound tech, Patty and MA Christy, nurses Lexi and Annette as well as the front desk girls, Beatrice and Kirsten were always so nice to me, and gave me hugs on the days they could tell that I needed it. I really developed a trusting relationship with each of them, and as much as I dreaded driving to the office, having my blood drawn, and waiting for Lexi to call with my results – seeing each of them three to four times a week really helped me get through.

Do you have any words of hope for others?

Never be afraid to ask your doctor, nurse or staff any questions! This is what they do for the job, and if they don’t know the answer, they will find it for you! And don’t forget to smile at others in the waiting room, we are all going through something terrifying and scary, but a kind smile can go a long way to someone else!

Tell us about your little miracle!

We are currently 14 weeks, doing great and on a low-risk calendar with our OB!
