A double miracle after premature ovarian failure

Why do you want to share your story?

I share our journey mostly to normalize infertility. Planning a family and having trouble conceiving, especially if you’re like us and everyone around you is getting pregnant ‘after one try,’ is really stressful. Add in the shame, anger and sadness you can feel combined with fertility tests and treatments – keeping it to yourself becomes very isolating.

What did you trust Fertility Centers of Illinois?

Honestly, my GYN sent us there. Once we met with our doctor we knew it was the right place.

All of the doctors, nurses and everyone else we encountered were wonderful. They all felt like your cheerleader, everyone was disappointed at your disappointments and excited at your victories.

What helped you get through treatment?

We did our best to find humor in the situation. It’s so awkward, but having a positive attitude and learning to laugh at the awkwardness helped. It still hurt just as bad when the treatments didn’t work, but after a little crying, maybe some wine, we picked up and moved on.

Do you have any words of hope for others?

Keep going, stick with it, it’s going to get easier. Try to find the funny in your situation, it’s not the end of the world, it’s just infertility.

Tell us about your little miracle!

We got a double miracle! On our second in vitro fertilization (IVF) we became pregnant with fraternal girl twins! Adelaide and Isabella are 14 months old, walking, talking and totally worth the wait!
