Why do you want to share your story?
I would like to give hope and inspire others who struggle with infertility. I feel so fortunate and blessed that we had the expertise of so many dedicated individuals at FCI and I truly know that without them, we wouldn’t have our now 10-year-old son.
What helped you get through treatment?
We had so much support and many prayers from our family and friends that got us through treatment and kept our spirits up. I also found comfort and support from online infertility message board groups. The groups were invaluable as I lived through the journey right alongside women from around the country going through the same treatments. We shared our daily struggles and experiences with the many medications, ultrasounds, blood draws and all the ups and downs you experience during this treatment; it made such a difference to share with others that were on the same path to parenthood.
Why did you trust Fertility Centers of Illinois?
From the beginning, each and every person we encountered on this journey at FCI impressed us. The nurses, the receptionist, the ultrasound techs, the doctors, the embryologists and all those involved were friendly, supportive, knowledgeable and helpful. They seemed both passionate and dedicated toward making our dream come true. We trusted FCI because we knew that they had cutting-edge technology and we wanted the best. I am sure that now they have even more advancements than when we had success 10 years ago!
How would you describe your experience with your physician?
The doctor coordinating all treatment and medications was Dr. Meike Uhler. She had such confidence and made us have so much hope that we could get pregnant. For both my egg retrieval and embryo transfer, Dr. Lederer was our physician and he was absolutely wonderful, too. He had such a calm, caring way about him that put us at ease and helped us feel like we really had a good chance of making our dream of a child come true. We were so saddened to learn that Dr. Lederer had passed away; his passion and compassion in helping us and others struggling with infertility will never be forgotten.
We were given a 5% chance of ever achieving a pregnancy without fertility treatments and we were only in our 20’s at that time; to go from that low of a chance to having our son after our first round of in vitro fertilization (IVF) with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is nothing short of an amazing miracle.
Tell us about your little miracle!
Our precious miracle son is just amazing and we love and cherish him so; it’s hard to believe that it’s been 10 years since he came into our lives. I believe that when you experience infertility and go to these lengths to conceive your child, it truly makes you realize what a huge miracle a new life really is.
