Dr. Laurence A. Jacobs

Dr. Laurence A. Jacobs is a Mayo Clinic-trained Reproductive Endocrinologist and board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has been practicing medicine since 1975. He completed medical school and an Obstetrics and Gynecology residency at Northwestern University, and then went on to complete a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Mayo Clinic in 1988.

He has been honored as “Top Doctor” by the prestigious publisher Castle Connolly in all of its editions of “America’s Top Doctors” 2000-2020 (top 1 percent of specialists nationwide) and “Chicago’s Top Doctors” 2000-2020. Ladies’ Home Journal and Chicago Magazine have repeatedly chosen him as one of America’s “top infertility doctors.”

Dr. Jacobs has authored numerous articles for journals, books, and newspapers. Dr. Jacobs’ own experience as a former fertility patient allows him to empathize with his patients and provide the support and encouragement needed. Dr. Jacobs is committed to providing patients with the most comprehensive care available to make their dreams of a family come true. Dr. Jacobs is the Medical Director of the Center of Excellence for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) at Fertility Centers of Illinois.

Q & A with Dr. Jacobs

What do you like most about what you do?
I love solving complex, challenging fertility problems and then ultimately fulfilling a couple’s dream of having a baby.

In practice, what are you most proud of?   
For the past 20 years, being named and honored yearly by Castle Connelly as one of  “America’s Top Doctors” in my field. This honors the top 1 percent of Reproductive Endocrinologists nationwide, as voted on by thousands of doctors and nurses.

Why did you choose to work in the field of reproductive medicine? 
I chose this field after struggling with personal infertility.

What do you consider your “special areas of interest” in reproductive medicine and why?
1. Couples who come to me after failing IVF previously.  Very challenging and an opportunity to use innovative ideas and methods to improve success.
2. PCOS and obesity problems as they impact fertility. Treating PCOS and improving lifestyle issues allows many women to successfully achieve a pregnancy and improve their health. I have battled obesity problems my entire life, and empathize with those who need help.

What is your approach to medicine?
As a fertility doctor, I am committed to developing a healthy partnership and relationship with each of my patients.

Share something unique that most people don’t know about you. 
Addicted to cookies & cream ice cream! I have also been called a “Big Teddy Bear.”

What do you do for fun in your spare time?
I like gardening, fishing, and riding my vintage Vespa scooter.
