The Road to Treatment
We are here to help you get ready for fertility treatment.
Preparation for Treatment Steps
The steps you’ll take before treatment begins
Once you and your doctor approve the treatment plan, the preparation for treatment steps begin which include medications, consents and financial approval. We’ll guide you through each one so you feel ready and supported every step of the way.

- Approve Treatment Plan: You and your physician decided on your treatment plan and now the preparation for treatment steps begin. At this point you will need to select IUI, IVF or Ovulation Induction. If doing IVF, you will need to determine if you are doing Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) and a Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) or Fresh Embryo Transfer, as well as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) or Assisted Hatching.
- Insurance Authorization: Insurance authorization (also called prior authorization or precertification) is a process that requires approval from your health insurance plan before your treatment can begin. Your Financial Educator will initiate the authorization request. Approval typically takes 1–3 weeks after submission, depending on your insurance plan. Once approved, you will receive a personalized cost estimate through the patient portal.
- Consents Signed: Written consents are documents to ensure that you (and your partner, if applicable) understand your treatment plan, including procedures, risks, benefits, and potential outcomes. Consents require an electronic signature through DocuSign.
- Financial Educator Gives Cost Estimate: Based on insurance authorization/approval or self-pay costs, your Financial Educator will provide a detailed breakdown of the treatments cost to you via the the patient portal. Please note that any selected options (IUI, IVF, ICSI, assisted hatching, PGT Testing, FET, and others) need to be solidified in this cost estimate. The cost estimate is sent about 3 weeks before your treatment starts. Optional: Schedule a 1:1 Session with your Financial Educator.

- Review Cost Estimate & Selected Options: If you are ready to move forward, payment of your invoice serves as confirmation of your approval. Invoices are sent through Phreesia, our secure, HIPPA-compliant electronic payment platform. You will receive an email with a secure link that directs you to the payment portal to process your payment. Please note: Any changes to your treatment plan may require your insurance authorization to be resubmitted for review and approval, which could impact your treatment timeline.
- Order & Receive Medications: Your care team will send your personalized medication protocol to a specialty fertility pharmacy. Your insurance plan may determine which pharmacy can dispense your medications. The pharmacy will contact you to review your order, costs, and delivery details before arranging shipment. It it important to promptly open your package upon arrival and verify that you received all your medications and supplies. Please note that treatment cannot begin until all required medications have been received.
- Tip: If you have questions about your medications or would like injection training, please contact your care team or watch our “Tips for Administering Medications” video.
- Cryo Preservation Login Created: Cryopreservation is the process of freezing and storing eggs, embryos, or sperm for future use. Before starting IVF treatment, you must enroll in our cryogenic storage program through Luminary Health Technologies. Your Financial Educator will send you instructions to activate your account. If you have questions about cryogenic storage or billing, please contact Luminary Health Technologies at 888-877-3285 (select Option 1) or send a message through the patient portal.
- Payment is Due for Financial Clearance: Full payment is due at least 48 hours before your treatment start date. Invoices are sent through Phreesia, our secure, HIPPA-compliant electronic payment platform. You will receive an email with a secure link that directs you to the payment portal to process your payment.
- Financial Clearance Obtained: Once full payment is received, you will be granted clearance to begin treatment.
- Treatment Can Start: You’ve completed many important steps to prepare for treatment. Please note that additional requirements may apply for females over 40 and patients using donor tissue.
