The Typical Infertility Treatment Journey

We're here for you every step of the way

When it comes to fertility issues and becoming a parent, no two people will have the exact same journey. Whether you are being treated for female or male infertility issues — or a combination of both — your physician will discuss with you a wide range of treatments and technologies in order to help you achieve a pregnancy and deliver a healthy baby.

The Right Treatment Plan for You

Our physicians will work closely with you to determine the treatment options that best suit your specific medical needs, emotional comfort, and financial situation. Along the way, we’ll communicate the benefits and risks of each procedure and provide options.

Most often, treatment options can include:

Additional Options for Creating a Family

We can help you weigh the pros and cons of the following options, which many people have used to successfully build a family.

  • Egg Donation: When a woman is unable to get pregnant using her own eggs, but wants to carry and give birth to a baby, egg donation can help. Some infertile women turn to a family member or friend to donate their eggs, while others seek out an anonymous egg donor, who is compensated for her time and effort.
  • Embryo Donation: A relatively new way to build a family, this option lets people who desire to have children receive (adopt) embryos from another donor family. This is not considered adoption in the legal sense.
  • Gestational Carriers (Surrogacy): For this option, a surrogate woman carries and delivers a baby for the intended parents. The surrogate is not genetically related to the child.
  • Adoption: This option is generally pursued by those who are unable or choose not to have a biologically related child.

The Emotional Journey

The experience of infertility can be very difficult for both men and women. It is not unusual to feel depressed, anxious, or both. The uncertainty of the outcome of infertility treatment, the basic lack of control over the process, handling insensitive comments from family members and friends, and coping with the strain it puts on your relationship can add up to a period of stress that may seem abnormal. These experiences are actually quite common and understandable given the circumstances.

It can help enormously to get support from not just your physician, but from an experienced therapist as well as others who have gone through or are dealing with similar difficult times. Our team has two staff psychologists who are available to meet with you and provide counseling.

In addition, holistic treatments can have significant benefit. Yoga, massage, and acupuncture are a few examples of the mind/body treatments available that can help you cope with feelings of depression, anger, and anxiety you may be feeling at such an uncertain, emotional time in your life.

Our team works in conjunction with wellness partners that provide integrated holistic care, where patients can focus on their physical and mental well-being through a variety of mind/body treatments and exercises.
