Persevering through repeated pregnancy loss

Why do you want to share your story?

I am open and willing to share my story because I am so grateful for the help I received, I am blessed, and I would like to inspire hope to others potentially facing the same problem of recurrent pregnancy losses, or miscarriages.

What led you to Fertility Centers of Illinois?

My very first pregnancy was 15 years ago and achieved through intrauterine insemination (IUI). Though I wasn’t having trouble conceiving when we tried again later in my life, I miscarried 3 times. We came to Fertility Centers of Illinois to find out why, and to save future pregnancies. We heard such high recommendations, and again, they seemed to care very much for what we were going through.

How would you describe your experience with your physician?

Dr. Allison Rodgers was very caring and treated us as friends. Taking joy in our good news and sharing our concerns. She often gave us hugs along the way. She sat down with us while receiving our treatment, and gave us hope when we were so scared of another loss.

What helped you get through treatment?

The support of my wonderful husband, James. He came with me to each treatment and helped pass the time by playing cards and running out for breakfast.

Also, the amazing staff at FCI – everyone was always positive, sweet, and encouraging. They seemed to care for us individually and treat our experience and pregnancy as special, not something that they see everyday.

Tell us about your little miracles!

My first little miracle is James Michael III, 18 months, and was born healthy with so much blond hair. He truly is a sweet sweet boy who is happy always, he is a joy and is so caring to his now little brother Benjamin Wyatt, 7 weeks, who was a surprise for us, and we began treatment with his pregnancy as soon as we found out we were expecting him. He also is very healthy and likes to vocalize that with his lungs, A LOT. He is truly a handful and makes his big brother practice and display his sweet patience and care. They are both loved tremendously.

Do you have any words of hope for others?

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Our treatment was a bit controversial still. Many have not heard of it, or don’t believe the treatment is really effective. But what do you have to lose? If the treatment was successful we would have a healthy pregnancy and baby, if we didn’t try it we would never know!! Also, everything seems overwhelming, but everything comes in steps – take them as they come. Stop looking at the big picture, just face THE NEXT STEP, there is plenty of help and answers along the way. Work with your significant other as much as possible, it is very bonding.
