Persevering Through Repeated Pregnancy Loss

Why do you want to share your story?

I am open and willing to share my story because I am so grateful for the help I received, I am blessed, and I would like to inspire hope to others potentially facing the same problem of recurrent pregnancy losses, or miscarriages.

What was your infertility diagnosis?

My very first pregnancy was 15 years ago and achieved through IUI. Though I wasn’t having trouble conceiving when we tried again later in my life, I miscarried 3 times. We came to Fertility Centers of Illinois to find out why, and to save future pregnancies.

What fertility treatment did you undergo?

Once I conceived, which has been two times now since I came to FCI, (both successful) we began monitoring and blood tests to maintain the pregnancies. We visited FCI every 2 weeks for the first trimester and I took progesterone daily.

What helped you get through treatment?

The support of my wonderful husband, James. He came with me to each treatment and helped pass the time by playing cards and running out for breakfast. Also the amazing staff at FCI – everyone was always positive, sweet, and encouraging. They seemed to care for us individually and treat our experience and pregnancy as special, not something that they see everyday.

Can you tell us about your little miracle?

My first little miracle is James Michael III, 18 months, and was born healthy with so much blond hair. He truly is a sweet sweet boy who is happy always, he is a joy and is so caring to his now little brother Benjamin Wyatt, 7 weeks, who was a surprise for us, and we began treatment with his pregnancy as soon as we found out we were expecting him. He also is very healthy and likes to vocalize that with his lungs, A LOT. He is truly a handful and makes his big brother practice and display his sweet patience and care. They are both loved tremendously.

Why did you trust Fertility Centers of Illinois?

We heard such high recommendations, and again, they seemed to care very much for what we were going through.

Which physician treated you and what were your experiences with him/her?

Dr. Allison Rodgers, and she was very caring and treated us as friends. Taking joy in our good news and sharing our concerns. She often gave us hugs along the way. She sat down with us while receiving our treatment, and gave us hope when we were so scared of another loss.

What words of hope do you have for others?

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Our treatment was a bit controversial still. Many have not heard of it, or don’t believe the treatment is really effective. But what do you have to lose? If the treatment was successful we would have a healthy pregnancy and baby, if we didn’t try it we would never know!! Also, everything seems overwhelming, but everything comes in steps – take them as they come. Stop looking at the big picture, just face THE NEXT STEP, there is plenty of help and answers along the way. Work with your significant other as much as possible, it is very bonding.
